Thomas Jefferson

“I believe banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies! If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, 1st by inflation, then by deflation, the banks & corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”

Well I agree with that profoundly.  It sounds as if it is exactly pertinent for the current economic crisis (2008-ish) but in fact it was Thomas Jefferson 200 years ago in 1802.  Just goes to show!

Whilst I was browsing the old internet for this quote I came across a blog by a lady in Hawaii.  It makes interesting reading and is all about her views (and others) regarding the way we have got into this financial mess.  Her name is Victoria Hokulani (what a nice name) and her blog is titled “Downsize Me-Lessons in Depressionomics“.  It is worth a look.
